Irreverent and Inconsistent results from Song Search

Hello, I keep getting wildly inconsistent results from /song/search when attempting to make a query from PC using curl and from Android using Retrofit as a wrapper.

When I make the following query from curl (http://developer.echonest.com/api/v4/song/search?api_key=XXXX&format=json&results=1&artist=GROUPLOVE&title=Ways+To+Go+%28Album+Version%29 ) I get back the following, in fact I get those exact same results no matter what values I use for results, artist, or title. When I make the exact same query on Android all I get back is a Response with a "Success" status and an empty list of songs.

is giving me an Invalid parameter: bucket error. The docs clearly state that using bucket in a songs call will reduce your results to those songs that are available on that service. Has there been a change in the API? Here is my result...

Unfortunately, the artist/songs call doesn't support buckets.

For your use case, you might want to try using a static/playlist call with type=artist, limit=true, bucket=id:spotify, and bucket=tracks. You could try hitting the Spotify Web API endpoints directly to get back only tracks that are on Spotify.

Thank you for your quick response. Whoever is in charge of the docs might want to update this page as in the "Filtering the results" section it states...

Another common use case is returning just those songs that are available via a particular partner catalog. For instance, seeing all of the songs that are available on Rdio or 7digital. To do this, you must add a bucket= parameter, and name the catalog that you'd like the results from. Additionally, you can choose to restrict the results, only returning items available within that catalog. To do this, you must also add the limit=true parameter. Here are some examples:

(Note that the rdio-us-streaming song catalog used in this tutorial has been superceded by the rdio-US track catalog)

Return The Postal Service songs with Rdio IDs if they have any

I am unable to reproduce the response you link to in your pastebin.

We don't know of a version of Ways To Go with the suffix of (Album Version) which is why you are getting no results.

If I remove that part of the query, I get results for that song.

I just double checked and that does resolve the issue on Android, but when I run identical queries through curl I get back what looks like example data; just a list of a dozen or so seemingly random results.

Exactly what curl command are you using? I'd bet it's not sending the request to the API that you think it is.

Looking at our server logs we're only receiving '/api/v4/song/search?api_key=XXXXX' from your curl requests .

I'm guessing you have an issue with the quoting of your url which is causing everything after the first '&' to get interpreted outside of your the curl command.

Try copying and pasting my example using double quotes, adding in your api key, and see if that gets you the result you expect.

Academic Researcher Looking For Assistance

Good evening! I am a graduate student currently working on a project focusing on music label portfolios and major label mergers in the past 30 years. To address my research question, I need to use this API to create a measure of portfolio diversity across music labels. I've been playing around with it for a bit, but I need more assistance to fully utilize it in a timely manner (aka before my dissertation is due :)).

I think what I need will be extremely easy for anyone familiar with the API to procure. I have a list of 11,000 songs with artist info. For each of these songs I would like the audio summary and any other info the API holds. Also, I have a list of around 3000 artists associated with these songs, and I would like to pull any information regarding these artists as well.

Even any advice at this point would be welcome regardless of actual assistance with the task.

I use GET method to send requests trough EchoNest API, but the answers are "empty" :
