Daniel - I assume you are doing these queries on the server side. If that's the case, you may want to just cache song results. Given that your queries will likely be focused on the most popular music, even a small cache will greatly reduce the number of calls you need to make to the Echo Nest. Top Genres & general number of Genres
Dear Echonest Devs,
today I realized that the number of genres returned by echonest is 1296. This seems a bit much to show to users, so it would be great if there would be some Top Genres API call or to be able to have something that could be used to sort the genres and display only the "more important" genres.
Also I'm not sure if not some of the genres are a bit redundant ... today I found the genre vienna indie and while I love that the indie bands of my hometown are mentioned @ echonest, I think that many many towns in the world have great indie bands that would probably be worth their own genre, which in turn would lead to even more genres. So maybe some genres should be merged and if I want to find indie songs from viennese artist the genre-radio could be combined with a specified artist location?
