Hi, I've been reading about the danceability and valence metrics that echonest uses. My understanding is that these values are comprised of multiple other factors such as rhythm, beat intensity, tempo (danceability) and acousticness, loudness (valence). Are these determinations entirely machine-based or are there people who rate each song individually. Thanks for any assistance!

API Maintenance - track methods will be offline
On Wednesday, September 11, we will be performing system maintenance on some back-end data stores. During this time our track methods will be offline. They will return an HTTP 503 response code (Service Unavailable). The maintenance window is from 10AM to 5PM EDT on 9/11. During that time the track/upload and the track/profile API calls will be unavailable. We will post on this thread when maintenance is complete.
Apologies for the late notice and any inconvenience this causes.

illdopa - some of the attributes such as loudness are objective and need no human input, while others, such as danceability require some human training. For attributes like danceability, we will manually label a pool of songs with danceability scores that we will then use to train our machine models. --Paul

Search for song by time_signature?
I don't see any way to find songs with a given time_signature - that isn't a valid parameter for song.search. E.g. when I'm just looking for slow 7/4 songs or slow (dance-able!) waltzes. Is there any way to find them (without doing lots of tempo queries and throwing out the vast majority that don't match)?

While browsing MTV's website I found that it's powered somehow by EchoNest :-)
There is a great feature overthere, the artist's main genre :
Can we expect to get such feature from the API in a future release ?
Thanks !

Hi sportstreet,
Thanks for noticing and reporting. We did have a hiccup with our news feeds and we did just fix it. You should see news for the last three days back filling now.
Thanks again!

Hi Manuel,
waitForAnalysis will call track/profile a number of times while waiting, and it does not throttle itself. Along with upping your rate limit, I would suggest calling track.getStatus()
repeatedly and sleeping for a few seconds between calls.
